I have felt a need to make art for all of my life.
This compulsion to draw and create has continued to be a daily guiding energy; a driving force for my imagination.
Countless sketch books have been filled with ideas, numerous pencils, pens and paints also employed in this relentless lifelong creative challenge. Occasionally when I take a moment to reflect on the journey, I ask myself has it been worth it?
The answer is surprisingly ambiguous.
If we measure my progress in terms of skill and expertise, I would suggest that I still have quite a way to go to achieve elite status. However, as each year passes, and as I mature, I continue to find the learning process even more thrilling and inspiring. With this in mind, I must admit that the show must go on.
This collection was created during 2019 -2022, coinciding with the global COVID pandemic. The artist draws on strong memories of his childhood and early adult life living in the relatively geographically isolated Island of Lutruwita/Tasmania, Australia. This sense of isolation and seclusion from the outside world, contributed greatly to the artist’s identity. It is important to mention that the stillness found in this majestic, yet rugged, and sometimes ruthless landscape, where he spent much of his time, developed into a humbled regard for its immense beauty and power. The ‘Locked Down – Origins’ series makes comment upon the human interaction juxta positioning next to raw nature.
